Farewell Dr. Dave

Dr. David B. Toth, a long-time friend, passed away on February 26, 2010. The Bisque brothers will miss him dearly.

An emergency room physician by profession, Dave was a passionate, intelligent, articulate man who loved life and pursued many interests; one of them happened to be amateur astronomy.

Dr. Dave, for whatever reason, was a champion for Software Bisque.  He first met Tom Bisque in 1992 at the Texas Star Party and they quickly became buddies.  Since then, Dave has attended almost every conference, star party, and astronomy-related event with us, in the role of “adopted brother”.  He always went out of his way to help, including spending long days in our booths fielding questions.  All on his vacation time. 

Dave was also a valuable contributor to SB, and many other astronomy-related forums. He was even known to hop in his plane to visit a stranger, just to lend a hand.

Friends like Dave don’t come along very often.  Our condolences to his wife Ronda, and his two sons Michael and Christopher.

Dave was one of those people who would step up to help with no expectation of reward. Many is the time I e-mailed him for some simple SKY6 issue. He responded quiuckly and most of the time accurately. He was a very giving man and seemed to have a bottomless well for compassion. I never saw him angry or ever lose his temper in almost 20 years I knew him.  

I ceratinly miss him and my most sincere best wishes to his family.

Ohio has yet lost another long time ATMer and optical genius *** Wessling.  *** passed away on March 17th from a tstroke incurred one week prior. *** was an avid astronomer and great guy who always greeter you with a smile. *** probably figured more mirrors than telescopes that I looked thru and I still see many of his optical sets advertised on AstroMart. He was both a longtime member of the Miami Valley Astronomical Society and the Cincinnati Astronomical Society. *** was a longtime friend and will be sorely missed.

I will miss Dave very much.

Dave used to come over and visit us at Perkins Observatory in Delaware OH, home of the Columbus Astronomical Society.  We had many a good night talking about everything quite a variety of themes.

May he rest in peace and my deepest condolences to the family and other friends he left behind.

I too am sorry to hear this news.  It makes me very sad to think about the years I've known Dr. Dave and the laughs we've had - and to think about going to the next conference and not seeing him there.  I still have his original old blue AP refractor.  It will be a different kind of experience the next time I look through it.  So long, Dave.

I received my Paramount just after having had a triple bypass operation. Somehow my wife contacted Dave. He flew to Cincinnati in his plane, and with the help of the members from the Cincinnati Observatory, spent the entire night putting together the mount, installing the telescopes and setting up a TPoint program. I will miss him.

Rest in peace Dave. My condollances to his family.
